Numb Fun

toothbrushWe were talking in the office about ideas for April Fool’s Day tomorrow. A few well known ideas flew around and I felt like I had heard them all.

After a while people started getting creative and then the best one yet came up! We were talking about changing the taste of things like adding vinegar to a water bottle or sugar in the salt shaker.. harmless things, but still lots of fun! Then a co-worker remembered that he had once heard of someone putting Orajel on their victim’s tooth brush. PERFECT! Their whole mouth will go numb, and they probably won’t notice it until the tooth brush has covered plenty of ground! How brilliant! It will wear off in 10 minutes or so, and you can sit smiling… fully able to feel your mouth!

Have you thought of a good prank for tomorrow?

In 1972, just after he had vowed never to step foot again on U.S. soil, THIS PERSON flew to America to receive a special Academy Award for “the incalculable effect he had on motion pictures”. Who was he?

Charlie Chaplin!

danceThe 2nd Annual H20 Swing Dance to Benefit UNICEF’s Tap Project is tonight from 7-11. It’s being held at Triangle Dance Studio on S Miami Blvd.

There are so many fun things happening you can’t afford to miss out!

You can take free swing dance lessons from 7-8 with the price of admission ($12) and dance along to live music by the Atomic Rhythm All-Stars from 8-11. There will also be door prizes (my favorite) a raffle, silent auction, snacks and drinks!

All proceeds for the event go to UNICEF’s efforts to provide clean water and sanitation in over 100 developing countries. What better way to support a good cause than by shaking your groove thing?

Hope to see you there!

Tame your linen closet

cottonIt’s time to start your spring cleaning! Yes, yes I am sure you are jumping for joy right now… have no fear!

There is one part of my house that always seems to be in shambles, no matter how many times I reorganize it, there is not enough fairy dust in the world to make it tidy… my linen closet. It may seem like a strange place to have so much chaos, but think about it. If you are like me and keep your linens, towels, and bulk bathroom nic-naks all in the linen closet, it can get pretty messy. I got a great tip from Better Homes and Gardens that HOPEFULLY will conquer my clutter! Using clear canisters for the small bulk items like bar soaps, cotton balls, and bath salts is a great way to not only eliminate clutter, but organize your closet! What’s better than looking into a linen closet without having to protect yourself from falling items?

How do you stay organized?

Still making plans for this weekend?

Now you don’t need to!

The Duke Chinese Dance Troupe (DCDT) is an organization of students with a passion for dance and dedication towards the presentation of Chinese culture to the Duke, Durham, and surrounding communities. They showcase the incredible complexity, grace, and creativity of Chinese dance, and therefore, the diversity of Chinese culture. Although dance styles are characterized by different attire, defining hand structures, and trademark poses, many, if not all, styles draw inspiration from nature. This is their 4th annual showcase entitled Elements.

Food Recall!

March 16, 2010 by Sara

tornadosAttention all snackers…BEWARE of Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP)! Say what?

HVP is a flavor enhancer that is commonly used in processed foods. How many processed foods do you eat in a day? Did you just shutter after thinking about it too? Oh, just me… oops!

ANYWAY, HVP is found in potato chips, pretzels, some frozen foods, dry mixes (chip dip, gravy, au jus, etc.) and fresh foods like potato salad and fresh dips. That sure does check of a lot of things on my monthly meal plan! :(

The recall was issued due to salmonella contamination which can cause fever, nausea, abdominal pain, and a number of other not-so-happy side effects. Be sure to check out the list of SPECIFIC PRODUCTS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. Happy (and careful) snacking everyone.

Parenthood

flickr: tvolNBC has been very successful in producing and airing quality prime time television shows.  A new show has just been introduced a week ago this past Tuesday.  The collaborative minds of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer have come together to produce Parenthood,  a touching comedy that deals with all the stages of parenting.  It’s pilot show was March 2nd and has already picked up a large following.  It balances sensitive issues, like a mother and father learning their son has Asperger’s syndrome, to the more comical issues of the ironic likeness we have to our parents, no matter what age.  It’s been a while since NBC has invoked tears and laughter of recognition, all within 60 minutes.

clock

Hello residents!
It is time ti SPRING forward! This is your happy reminder that Sunday is Daylight Saving Time! Be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour on Saturday night.
I hate and love springing forward. Hate because we have to lose an hour of MUCH NEEDED SLEEP, abut love because it means Spring is fast approaching… and Spring time means chirping birds, sunshine, beautiful flowers, and happy smiling faces here at West Village!
